Soil Testing & Revitalisation

Getting the most out of your garden or pre-planting preparation to ensure your plants thrive. Soil health drives everything else in a garden.

Soil testing involves analysing the composition and characteristics of soil to determine its nutrient levels, pH balance, and overall health. This information helps to understand the soil's fertility, potential deficiencies, and any imbalances that may exist. Once soil has been analysed any deficiencies or imbalances, we can apply revitalisation materials and techniques to address specific deficiencies and improve drainage, aeration, and microbial activity.

Chemical-Free Weed Control

This is where most gardening services reach for herbicide. We don't. We pride ourselves on being chemical free with effective & holistic weed control.

JonesBee uses hand removal, precision tools, mulching, and soil improvement to control weeds, methods that address the cause rather than just burning off the symptom. It takes more skill and more time. It's also the only approach that doesn't harm soil microbes, nearby plants, bees, or the stormwater that runs off your property.

Shrub & Tree Pruning

Pruning at the wrong time or in the wrong way stresses plants, reduces flowering, and can create disease entry points. JonesBee prunes to the plant's seasonal cycle. Shaping for form and airflow, removing deadwood, and encouraging the kind of new growth that rewards you with flowers and fruit.

High Pressure Washing

Our commercial grade high pressure cleaning service is a versatile and effective method for removing dirt, grime, mildew, mold, algae, and other surface contaminants, using natural cleaning soaps when necessary, without harsh chemicals. This simple but effective service lifts your home with an abundance of light and cleanliness, and makes a significant difference to how a garden feels overall.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a garden be maintained in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs or Byron Shire? In Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, most gardens need fortnightly maintenance from September through March and monthly visits through autumn and winter. In Byron Shire the growing season is effectively year-round. Subtropical growth rates mean fortnightly visits are often necessary even through winter, particularly for gardens with high weed pressure from species like lantana and morning glory. The right schedule depends on your specific garden, plant selection, and region. We'll advise after a site visit.

How do you control weeds without chemicals? Through hand removal using the right tool for each species. Shallow-rooted annuals come out with a hoe or hand fork; deep-rooted perennials like oxalis and onion weed need full root extraction. After removal, mulching suppresses reinfestation and soil improvement creates conditions where weeds are less competitive over time.

Can a garden recover after years of herbicide use? Yes. Herbicides suppress soil microbial activity and disrupt the biology that healthy plants depend on, but soil ecology is resilient. Recovery starts with a soil test to understand what's been depleted, followed by organic amendments targeted to the specific deficiencies.

What is eco garden maintenance and how is it different? Eco garden maintenance uses no herbicides, fungicides, or synthetic fertilisers, ever. Weeds are managed by hand, soil is improved with organic amendments, and all equipment is solar-charged and battery-powered. JonesBee services both Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and Byron Shire with the same chemical-free standard across both regions. The long-term outcome is a garden that becomes easier to manage over time as soil health improves, conventional chemical maintenance produces the opposite effect.

Does organic garden maintenance cost more? Rates are comparable to conventional garden maintenance across both Sydney and Byron Shire. The investment is in the method and expertise, not a premium price point. Over time, organically maintained gardens require fewer inputs and less intervention as soil health improves. The ongoing cost typically reduces rather than stays fixed.
